Dr Sayqa Arif is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, specialising in the care of adults with congenital heart disease. She provides a highly personalised, holistic approach for each patient, many of whom she supports throughout their lives. In addition to her NHS practice, Dr Arif also sees private patients at The Harborne Hospital in Birmingham.
Dr Arif performs a wide range of minimally invasive (percutaneous) cardiac procedures, including PFO and ASD closures, complex valve interventions and cardiac pacing procedures. She also manages all general adult cardiology conditions such as palpitations, chest pain, dizziness, breathlessness and collapse. Her specialist expertise lies in caring for adults born with congenital heart conditions, as well as patients who have experienced stroke related to a patent foramen ovale (PFO).
She graduated in 1999 and went on to complete a PhD in cardiac physiology at the University of Birmingham in 2014. Her cardiology training took place across the West Midlands, followed by a dedicated cardiac pacing fellowship at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. This strong academic and clinical background supports her commitment to delivering safe, effective and compassionate care.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Arif serves as a trustee for a local charity focused on reducing health inequalities for people living in lower socio-economic areas of Birmingham. Outside of medicine, she is a keen hiker and loves spending time in the mountains.
