About

Mr Rahul Jayaram is a UK- and internationally trained Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with specialist expertise in head and neck cancer, skin cancer, and complex reconstructive surgery of the face, head, and neck. His NHS practice is based at St George’s University Hospital, London, and Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals, Surrey. He also runs a busy private practice on Harley Street and at several leading private hospitals across London and Surrey.

He holds dual qualifications in Medicine and Dentistry and achieved numerous academic awards and distinctions throughout his training. His basic and higher surgical training was undertaken at prestigious London teaching hospitals, including King’s College Hospital, Guy’s Hospital, and St George’s Hospital. He was awarded competitive travel fellowships by both the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists and the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons to undertake advanced training in Transoral Robotic Surgery in Hamburg. This was followed by an Advanced Head and Neck Surgery Fellowship at the internationally renowned Sydney Head and Neck Cancer Institute, based at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Hospital in Sydney.

Mr Jayaram has extensive experience in ablative head and neck cancer surgery and microvascular reconstruction, including advanced free tissue transfer techniques such as perforator flaps. His expertise also includes computer-aided reconstructive design, virtual surgical planning, transoral robotic surgery, dynamic facial reanimation for facial palsy, corneal neurotisation, and salivary gland surgery. He is a core member of the South West London Regional Head and Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Team.

He serves as the Clinical Lead for the Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and has a high-volume practice focused on the surgical management of head and neck skin cancers, alongside functional and aesthetic reconstruction.

A significant part of his practice involves the management of nerve injury and facial palsy. He offers both surgical and non-surgical treatments, including facial suspension, brow lift procedures, free muscle transfer, and functional Botox injections for synkinesis and facial muscle balance. In addition to his fellowship training, Mr Jayaram completed a visiting fellowship at the Facial Nerve Centre at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston. He is among a small number of reconstructive surgeons who perform corneal neurotisation to restore sensation to an insensate cornea, working closely with ophthalmic surgical colleagues.

Mr Jayaram treats a wide range of conditions affecting the mouth, jaws, face, and neck. His practice includes surgical removal of wisdom teeth and retained roots, assessment of oral ulcers and red or white lesions, management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, masseteric hypertrophy, benign jaw cysts and tumours, facial trauma, fat and bone grafting, dental implant surgery, and both open and minimally invasive salivary gland procedures.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and regularly lectures at national and international meetings. An enthusiastic educator, he is an educational supervisor for higher surgical trainees in London, actively involved in undergraduate medical teaching, and has served as an examiner for both Imperial College London and King’s College London Medical Schools.

Mr Jayaram is a Council Member of the Oral and Maxillofacial Section of the Royal Society of Medicine, where he has lectured and chaired courses. He is also a member of the International Collaboration Committee of the British Association of Head and Neck Oncology and serves as a Specialty Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England Maxillofacial Surgery Update Series.

He is known for his compassionate, patient-centred approach and delivers care that is contemporary, evidence-based, and tailored to individual patient needs.
