Dr Rahim Kanji is an outstanding Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, with NHS bases at the prestigious Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, (boasting the lowest age-standardised mortality rate in England – a testament to the excellent care he and his colleagues deliver), and the Hammersmith Hospital (part of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust).
At the Wellington Hospital, Dr Kanji provides excellent general cardiology care, treating patients with shortness of breath (owing to heart failure, valvular and structural abnormalities), palpitations (owing to arrhythmia), hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia and chest pain/tightness/heaviness (owing to heart attacks and angina). In fact, for the latter, Dr Kanji is an expert, and investigates such patients with non-invasive tests, as well as invasive angiography, and treats with balloons and stents (angioplasty) as required. During this, he uses the latest technologies and best equipment, including intravascular imaging, ensuring the best possible, tailored treatment, minimising the risk of stent failure and further heart attacks.
He holds a PhD, awarded by Imperial College London (National Heart and Lung Institute), in the risk stratification of patients with coronary artery disease and aortic stenosis. And still today, maintains an interest in biomarkers and other imaging techniques to identify individuals at risk of cardiovascular events. This is for both patients with established cardiovascular disease, and also for individuals who are asymptomatic, but wanting to learn their risk, and obtain a tailored management plan to improve their future risk profile.
He truly is passionate about prevention, and regularly gives lectures at international society meetings and GPs, to ensure all is being done to improve the health of the population. In some cases this includes the initiation and adherence of guideline directed medical therapy, (and is currently working with public health leads to create novel treatment pathways and models).
He is also considered a pioneer in the virtual wards space, and is the lead for the virtual chest pain ward at Chelsea, providing fantastic, safe, effective care for patients from the comfort of their home. As was his PhD, Dr Kanji’s BSc (in endocrinology) and medical degree were awarded by Imperial College London, with distinction. His post-graduate training in both general medicine and cardiology was again within the competitive, prestigious London – Imperial deanery.
He still maintains his interest in research, and is considered an expert in anti-platelet therapy and the management of patients with thrombosis (heart attacks), and has published his work in high impact factor journals.
Dr Kanji would be honoured and privileged to see you at The Wellington, and is fully committed to treating, and improving your quality of life.
