Dr Quazi Tamjidul Islam is a Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology and Acute & General Internal Medicine in London. He works for the NHS at the Royal Free Hospital, and works privately at HCA UK The Physician’s Clinic and Princes Grace Hospital. His specialist areas of interest include the full spectrum of endocrine, metabolic and diabetes disorders, with particular expertise in pituitary and adrenal medicine, Type 1 Diabetes and diabetes technology.
Dr Islam manages complex endocrine conditions including Cushing's syndrome (including the management of Cushing's Crisis and cyclical Cushing's), phaeochromocytoma, adrenal tumours, hyperaldosteronism, and the full range of pituitary disease including acromegaly, prolactinoma, hypopituitarism and pituitary apoplexy. He serves as Pituitary MDT Lead at the Royal Free Hospital site and is an active member of the pituitary and neuroendocrine MDT, with close perioperative collaboration with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN).
He has a strong subspecialty interest in Type 1 Diabetes and advanced diabetes technology, including insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring. He has completed dedicated training in DAFNE, BERTIE and runs specialist clinics for complex Type 1 Diabetes and Diabetes foot services.
In his capacity as a Physician in Acute and General Internal Medicine, Dr Islam diagnoses, stabilises and manages both serious and undifferentiated medical illness. At the Royal Free Hospital he holds lead roles as Junior Doctor Rota Lead, Quality Improvement Lead, and Mortality & Morbidity Lead for Acute Medicine.
Dr Islam graduated from the University of Dhaka with distinction in MBBS (2009) and achieved the highest mark nationally in the FCPS Internal Medicine examination of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (2016), earning the prestigious Asia Gold Medal. He relocated to the UK in 2017 and progressed through senior medical training on the North Central London Diabetes & Endocrinology rotation, including a Royal College of Physicians Chief Registrar year at the Royal Free Hospital (2022–23), during which he led pan-hospital patient flow and trainee well-being projects. He was appointed Consultant at the Royal Free Hospital in November 2024 and substantively in November 2025.
Dr Islam's philosophy is to provide patients with holistic, evidence-based and empathetic care, respecting individual needs and cultural perspectives. As an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, Dr Islam works with University College London Medical School to provide teaching and training for undergraduate medical students. He holds RCP Educator Accreditation and supervises specialty registrars, foundation doctors and medical students at the Royal Free Hospital. His professional interests include the safe and ethical integration of AI into clinical practice.
