Professor Brecker is an experienced consultant cardiologist with a long-standing career spanning general and interventional cardiology. His specialist interests include valvular heart disease and conditions at the intersection of cardiac and cerebrovascular health, including stroke.
Alongside his clinical work, Professor Brecker has maintained a strong commitment to academic medicine, contributing extensively to research and medical education. Among his innovations is the development of an interventional guidewire designed for use in transcatheter procedures.
He has held a number of senior leadership roles at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where his responsibilities included serving as Clinical Lead for the South West London Cardiac Network, Director of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories, Care Group Lead for Cardiology, and Chief of the Cardiology Clinical Academic Group.
Professor Brecker’s academic output is substantial, comprising five authored books, 25 book chapters, and more than 175 articles published in peer-reviewed medical journals.
