About
Professor Mohamad Hamady graduated from medical school in 1998. After three years of surgical training, he began training in clinical and interventional radiology at the American University of Beirut. He then completed interventional radiology training at King's College London in 2001 and spent two years in clinical research at Guys and St. Thomas’ Hospital. In 2003, he joined Imperial College London as a Consultant and Senior Lecturer in clinical and interventional radiology, and in 2019, he was promoted to Professor of Practice in Image-Guided Surgery and Interventional Radiology.
Professor Hamady's research is focused on robotic endovascular interventions and navigation, virtual reality simulation training for endovascular skills, aortic stent grafting, and advanced embolisation techniques. He has recently begun a collaborative project to prevent strokes during thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR).
A prolific author, Professor Hamady has published over 160 peer-reviewed papers and 14 book chapters. He is also a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, having given over 60 talks and keynote lectures in the last five years.
Throughout his career, Professor Hamady has been at the forefront of innovation, performing several world-first procedures, including the first robotic endovascular aortic intervention in 2008, the first robotic fibroid embolisation in 2012, and the UK’s first robotic prostate artery embolisation in 2017.
Professor Hamady has also played an important role within national and international societies, serving on scientific and educational committees for the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR), the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE), and the Pan Arab Interventional Radiological Society (PAIRS). He has also provided guidance to the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) on managing pulmonary embolism and heavy menstrual bleeding. His current roles include Pan London Training Program Director for Interventional Radiology for Health Education England, Secretary of the BSIR, Chair of the IDEAS 2020 Scientific Committee, and Vice-Chair of the CIRSE Endovascular section.
