Professor Michael Hanna is a senior consultant neurologist with a wealth of clinical consulting experience. Over the course of his career, he has personally assessed and treated more than 45,000 people with a wide range of neurological symptoms. 

Professor Michael Hanna sees all general neurology conditions and enjoys supporting patients though the diagnostic and treatment journey. He is also known internationally for his clinical care and research in muscle-wasting neurological conditions such as motor neuron disease, myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophies, mitochondrial disease, myositis, channelopathies, and peripheral neuropathy. He leads an expert team as Director of the London International Muscle Centre. The Centre prioritises rapid diagnosis including genomics, MRI, neurophysiology, muscle/nerve biopsy and providing bespoke therapy programmes including medication, immunotherapy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation. He provides neurological rehabilitation for individuals with neuromuscular neurological disease. 

He is very active in research to understand neurological disease and develop therapies and has one of the highest publication records of any UK neurologist with over 500 research publications and reviews. Professor Hanna’s practice is therefore informed by the very latest research developments. In the last 20 years he has raised over £60 million in funds for research from research funders and philanthropy to make advances in understanding neurological diseases. 

He has held major leadership positions including Clinical Director of the entire National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery Queen Square (over 1500 staff) 2007-2011. Since 2011 he has been the longest serving Director of the UKs largest Neurology Research Institute- the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology (over 1000 staff).
