About
Professor Martyn Caplin is Professor of Gastroenterology and Tumour Neuroendocrinology at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London.
Prof Caplin leads the Royal Free Hospital European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society Centre of Excellence. He leads scientific and clinical research programmes into these rare cancers across University College London. He was elected Chairman of European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society 2014-2016 and now serves on its advisory board. He is a founder and Past-Chairman of the UK & Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his clinical leadership and research in the field of rare cancers. He was a member of the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) and a Past-Chairman of the rare cancer group. He is currently Chairman of the European Union Reference Network for Rare Cancers for neuroendocrine tumours.
He was previously the clinical lead for “NHS Evidence” for Gastroenterology and Liver diseases (under the auspices of NICE). He has a particular interest in diet and disease and has published on the evidence base for diet and food supplements and their impact on disease. Specific interests: general gastroenterology problems (including complex); endoscopy including gastroscopy and colonoscopy; diet associated g.i symptoms and disease; neuroendocrine tumors.
