Professor George Du Toit is a consultant paediatrician with over two decades of experience in the treatment and management of allergies in children, including asthma, eczema, reflux, and hayfever. He sees private patients at The Portland Hospital for Women and Children and St Thomas Hospital (Westminster Bridge Consulting Rooms).
Professor Du Toit gained his primary medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, after which he undertook basic and specialist registrar training. Upon completion of his training, Professor Du Toit was appointed Consultant in 2003. Since his appointment, he has also become an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Cape Town University and also an Honorary Consultant at St Ormond Street Hospital.
Professor Du Toit is also well known for his research, being the senior co-investigator on National Institutes for Health-funded research studies, including the ‘Learning about allergies to Peanut’ studies, aimed at understanding how to prevent peanut allergies and treating peanut allergies. He has also led studies to prevent common food allergies in breastfed infants (EAT-ON) and optimise sesame, milk, egg, and cashew allergies (BAT-2). Professor Du Toit is also a member of the Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society and has previously chaired the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology pediatric section.
