Professor Carlo Di Mario serves as an honorary consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Specialist Care, where he attends to private patients. His medical and cardiology education took place at the University of Padova in Italy, followed by interventional training and a PhD at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Subsequently, he held the positions of research and clinical director for interventional cardiology at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy.
In 2003, Professor Di Mario assumed a specialized role at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust while concurrently serving as Professor of Clinical Cardiology at Imperial College London. Since 2016, he has held the position of Chair of Cardiology at the University of Florence in Italy.
With a focus on interventional cardiology, Professor Di Mario's expertise lies in utilizing catheters and other devices to restore heart blood flow without resorting to major surgery, providing relief to patients experiencing symptoms like angina and shortness of breath. His specialization extends to emerging areas such as interventions on heart valves (TAVI, MitraClip), peripheral vessels, and the correction of structural heart abnormalities.
Additionally, Professor Di Mario is a recognized authority in intravascular imaging, employing techniques such as ultrasound, optical coherence tomography, and near-infrared spectroscopy for both research and clinical applications.
