He has a particular interest in liver, biliary tract and pancreatic surgery, as well as the management of cancer.

He graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1985, before completing specialist training in HPB and Liver Transplant Surgery. Professor Davidson has been instrumental in the development of the HPB and Liver Transplant surgical unit at the Royal Free Hospital. At UCL he has established a research programme investigating HPB disease with a large number of UK collaborators. This has led to the development of a highly successful research team who have published over 420 peer reviewed papers. He also has an interest in clinical trials and Evidence based Healthcare and has been published and lectured on this extensively.

Professor Davidson is actively involved in training and has authored over 22 textbook chapters. He has supervised 34 successful higher degrees (PhD / MD) and trained a large cohort of HPB and liver transplant surgeons.

He chairs the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) London grant funding panel for Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB). He is currently a UK Editor for the UK Cochrane Group, Director of the London Editorial base for the HPB group and Course Director for the UCL MSc in Evidence based healthcare.

It is important that HCA is transparent about our relationship with those doctors who provide us with clinical guidance on delivering the best possible care to patients and operating our hospitals safely and efficiently. We set out here some of the ways in which we work together and the amount we pay this doctor for such services. My private practice is at The Wellington Hospital, St.John's Wood.
