Dr Omer Ahmad is a multi-award-winning Consultant Gastroenterologist based at University College Hospital London (UCLH). He is the current clinical co-lead for the North Central London Endoscopy Regional Network.
He was ranked 1st nationally in the United Kingdom to gain specialist training, awarded the British Society of Gastroenterology clinical and translational scientist of the year and subsequently the National Endoscopy Rising Star Award.
He has a specialist interest in the early detection and treatment of pre-cancerous conditions in the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. He is a specialist accredited colonoscopist for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (requiring rigorous accreditation and audit of key performance indicators). In addition to advanced endoscopy, his specialist clinical practice includes the management of a wide range of gut disorders such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), bloating and irritable bowel syndrome.
He studied medicine at University College London graduating with a distinction in both clinical sciences and practice alongside a 1st Class Honours intercalated degree in Pharmacology. He was awarded the A.J. Clark Prize for the best overall performance and placed on the prestigious Dean's List for outstanding academic achievement.
He completed an academic endoscopy fellowship and obtained a PhD at UCL, where he pioneered artificial intelligence software now integrated into clinical practice for early detection of gastrointestinal cancers. Driven by his passion, he continues to lead cutting edge research at the Division of Surgery and Interventional Sciences and the Surgical Robot Vision Research Group at UCL,
