About
Dr. Omer Ahmad is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist with a specialist interest in the early detection and treatment of pre-cancerous conditions in both the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. He has been awarded multiple prestigious awards for his innovative clinical research in the field. Dr. Ahmad specializes as a luminal gastroenterologist and in advanced endoscopy, including the diagnosis and management of a wide range of gut disorders such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn) and irritable bowel syndrome. He was previously awarded the young clinical and translational scientist of the year by the British Society of Gastroenterology and the National Endoscopy Rising Star Award. He is the current clinical co-lead for the North Central London endoscopy network.
He completed an academic endoscopy fellowship and obtained a PhD at UCL, where he pioneered artificial intelligence software now integrated into clinical practice for early detection of gastrointestinal cancers. Driven by his research passion, he remains actively engaged in clinical research at the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS) and the Surgical Robot Vision Research Group at University College London.
