Dr. Nikolaos Chatzizacharias serves as a Consultant HPB (Liver, Pancreas, and Biliary) Surgeon at The Harborne Hospital.
His medical journey commenced with a degree from the University of Athens, Greece, in 2004, followed by a PhD focused on pancreatic cancer at the same institution. Dr. Chatzizacharias underwent training in HPB and Transplant Surgery in Cambridge, UK, and further honed his skills in HPB Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, USA. He holds fellowships with both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the American College of Surgeons. With a plethora of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international conferences to his credit, he stands as a notable figure in his field.
Dr. Chatzizacharias boasts a comprehensive clinical repertoire, addressing various conditions of the liver, pancreas, and biliary tract, whether benign or malignant. Proficient in both open and minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery, his expertise shines particularly in the management of locally advanced pancreatic cancer. Notably, he spearheads the locally advanced pancreatic cancer program at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, recognized as the largest in the UK and among the world's most extensive.
His professional interests span a spectrum of specialized areas, encompassing cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), hepatobiliary and liver surgery, pancreatic and liver cancer treatment, pancreatobiliary diseases, and laparoscopic interventions such as cholecystectomy and hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeries, with a specific focus on locally advanced pancreatic cancer.
