About

Mr Nicholas Haden is a Consultant Neurosurgeon with over 15 years of experience. He previously served as Clinical Director of Neurosurgery at a regional neurosurgical centre in the South West before joining the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London.

Mr Haden completed his medical degree at the University of Cambridge in 1997, followed by neurosurgical training rotations in Bristol and Plymouth. He subsequently undertook spinal fellowships in both orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine surgery, with further specialist training in Leeds and at the internationally recognised Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, USA. He was awarded the Norman Dott Medal for his performance in the national Neurosurgical Examination.

During his time in the South West, Mr Haden developed a sub-specialist practice in minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery, intradural tumours, spinal cord syrinxes, spinal dysraphism, and craniovertebral pathologies. He led pioneering work in the routine adoption of minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery techniques.

He now provides comprehensive spinal care across a wide range of spinal conditions. His expertise includes minimally invasive and navigated surgery throughout the spine, as well as the management of cervical and craniocervical disorders, Chiari malformation, intradural and intramedullary pathologies, spinal cord dysraphism, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and thoracic disc prolapse.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Haden presents nationally on surgical safety and human factors in surgery. He is a member of the British Association of Spine Surgeons and the Society of British Neurological Surgeons, and serves as Chair of the British Syringomyelia and Chiari Group. He also acts as Clinical Lead to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Committee for Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression (MSCC) guidelines.
