Mr Nav Johal is a Consultant Paediatric Urologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, specialising in both general and reconstructive paediatric urology. His clinical practice covers the full spectrum of childhood urological conditions, with a focus on delivering high standards of care for children and their families.
He undertook specialist training across several leading centres in England, including Great Ormond Street Hospital, Cambridge, Southampton, University College Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital, alongside a dedicated fellowship in paediatric urology. Mr Johal completed a PhD at University College London investigating normal and abnormal bladder development in children, leading to multiple international presentations and peer-reviewed publications. He has also been awarded a Royal College of Surgeons of England research fellowship and has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
Mr Johal manages a wide range of paediatric urological conditions, including antenatally detected hydronephrosis and congenital urological abnormalities, foreskin disorders such as balanitis, phimosis and buried penis, undescended testes, bladder dysfunction including bedwetting, groin and scrotal swellings such as hydrocoeles, varicocoeles and epididymal cysts, hypospadias and other penile abnormalities, urinary tract infections, vesico-ureteric reflux, and urinary tract obstruction including pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction.
His specialist clinical interests include complex reconstructive urology, encompassing bladder exstrophy, posterior urethral valves, neurogenic bladder and hypospadias. He also has expertise in paediatric uro-oncology and minimally invasive techniques such as keyhole surgery, retroperitoneoscopy and endourology. In addition, he provides prenatal counselling for families affected by hydronephrosis and congenital bladder anomalies identified during pregnancy.
Mr Johal remains actively involved in academic research and clinical development, contributing to ongoing advances in paediatric urology through publication and international presentation.
