Dr Usman Ameer Khan is a consultant surgeon specialising in general surgery, colorectal surgery and laparoscopic gastrointestinal procedures, with additional accreditation in endoscopy. He is based in Manchester and brings more than 37 years of medical experience to his practice, including over three decades working at specialist consultant level.
A substantial part of Dr Khan’s work focuses on minimally invasive surgery and gastrointestinal disease. He has been performing laparoscopic gallbladder surgery since 1993 and laparoscopic hernia repair since 1995, and has carried out several thousand procedures in these areas. His clinical interests include colorectal surgery, gastrointestinal oncology, endoscopic investigation and advanced laparoscopic techniques.
Dr Khan qualified in medicine at the University of Punjab in 1984. His postgraduate surgical training was completed through the North West Thames rotation, alongside specialist experience at St Mark’s Hospital for Colorectal Disorders. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in 1999 and subsequently entered onto the GMC Specialist Register. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
After completing his specialist training, Dr Khan was appointed Clinical Lead for General Surgery and Colorectal Cancer at East Cheshire NHS Trust. During this time, he established services in laparoscopic colorectal surgery and enhanced recovery after surgery. He currently holds the roles of Clinical Director for Planned Care Surgery and Clinical Director for Diagnostic Services within the Trust.
Alongside his clinical leadership responsibilities, Dr Khan remains actively involved in research, with particular interest in laparoscopic surgery and colorectal cancer. He has presented his work at national and international meetings and continues to contribute to peer-reviewed medical journals.
