About
Mr Simon Newman is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon who exclusively treats patients with hip problems and carries out a large number of hip replacements, hip arthroscopies, revision hip replacements, and hip injections each year. Mr Newman believes in providing evidence-based therapies to his patients and he is active in building the evidence base in hip and knee surgery through research projects. He has written more than 60 articles and has received several awards for his work. He is currently involved in hip and knee research at the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and Bournemouth University.
Mr Newman trained at the University of Southampton before joining the North-West London orthopaedic training rotation. During this period, he earned a PhD from Imperial College London, where he worked on innovative implant coating materials and the development of patient-specific surgical guides. He also completed a hip fellowship at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and a second fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, where he received specialised training in keyhole hip surgery (arthroscopy) and partial knee replacement surgery (including the industry-leading Oxford Partial Knee Replacement). He also gained specialised training in hip dysplasia surgery at Guy's Hospital in London.
Mr Newman currently co-leads the fellowship programme at his unit and is the Oxford adult peri-acetabular osteotomy service lead.
