Dr. Samuel Ford is a Consultant Surgeon at The Harborne Hospital, specialising in general surgery, upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, and sarcoma treatment. He completed his specialist training in general and upper GI surgery in the South West of England before undertaking advanced fellowships focused on sarcoma surgery in Birmingham and Milan. During his time as a Cancer Research UK Clinical Research Fellow, Dr. Ford earned a PhD in cancer biology from the University of Birmingham.
His research primarily aims to improve outcomes for patients with sarcomas and neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). Dr. Ford currently supervises two PhD students and is actively involved in launching international randomised clinical trials to advance treatment strategies. He has contributed extensively to the field through numerous publications and has played a key role in developing international consensus statements on sarcoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) management.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Ford holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer position at the University of Birmingham. He also contributes his expertise as a member of the Neuroendocrine Tumour Expert Advisory Group and serves on the board of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Sarcoma group, demonstrating his active engagement in shaping global sarcoma research and care.
