Mr Pasquale Giordano has served as a consultant surgeon at the Royal London Hospital and Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, since 2002. In 2012, he was appointed Clinical Lead for the Trust’s Colorectal Department. He currently holds leadership roles as Clinical Lead for Pelvic Floor and Functional Bowel Disorders at the Royal London Hospital, as well as for the Abdominal Wall Surgery service.
After qualifying from the University of Naples in Italy in 1990, Mr Giordano has built extensive surgical expertise. His early training took place in both Italy and the UK, after which he specialised in colorectal surgery through advanced fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida and later at the Centre for Academic Surgery at the Royal London Hospital. Alongside his clinical work, he has delivered lectures and performed live surgical demonstrations internationally, and has published widely in leading medical journals.
This broad, international experience has contributed to his strong reputation for excellence in both patient care and surgical training. As a result, he attracts senior colorectal trainees from across the UK and overseas, and receives patient referrals from throughout the country and internationally.
In recent years, Mr Giordano has concentrated on advancing treatments for common conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, and faecal incontinence. Notably, he was the first surgeon in the UK to introduce the transanal haemorrhoidal dearterialisation (THD) technique and is now among the most experienced practitioners of this procedure nationwide. He also leads the UK’s only Royal College of Surgeons–accredited training course dedicated to THD.
It is therefore clear why Mr Giordano is widely recognised as one of the UK’s foremost colorectal surgeons—respected for his ongoing commitment to patient care, innovation, and research.
