Mr Nicholas Thomas is a Consultant Neurosurgeon with a wide-ranging clinical practice and particular expertise in complex skull base surgery. He practises at the London Neurosurgery Partnership and leads a national multidisciplinary service for patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 and type 2, providing coordinated specialist care for these complex genetic conditions.
He graduated MB BS from the University of London in 1988 and went on to achieve FRCS (England), FRCS (Glasgow) and FRCS (Surgical Neurology) in 1998. His neurosurgical training was undertaken at leading centres including Atkinson Morley Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He further broadened his expertise with a spinal fellowship at Ohio State University.
Mr Thomas has developed advanced skills in anterior and lateral skull base procedures, particularly endoscopic pituitary and skull base surgery. His clinical interests include chordoma, chondrosarcoma, basilar invagination, pituitary tumours, craniopharyngioma and acoustic neuroma. He contributes internationally as a faculty member at specialist workshops in both endoscopic and open skull base techniques. In addition, since 1996 he has undertaken regular charitable visits to Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he lectures and operates alongside local neurosurgical teams.
