Mr Subramonian is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Founder of Birmingham Urology Clinic, which he established in 2005. The clinic has since developed into a recognised tertiary referral centre, receiving complex urological cases from across the West Midlands and further afield.
He is regarded as a national authority in stone disease and benign kidney conditions, managing highly complex referrals at both regional and international level. His practice focuses on minimally invasive approaches to kidney stone surgery, and he is widely known for his expertise in keyhole techniques. He is regularly invited to lecture and participate as faculty at national and international urological meetings.
Mr Subramonian currently serves as Chair of the Stones and Endourology Subsection of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS). He also leads an established fellowship programme that has trained multiple urologists who now practise as stone disease specialists in the UK and overseas.
He completed his basic urological training and research in West Yorkshire before undertaking higher surgical training in London. His advanced subspecialist training in endoscopic stone surgery and laparoscopic techniques was carried out at King’s College Hospital and St George’s Hospital. He subsequently undertook further specialist development through a travelling fellowship awarded by the British Urological Foundation, during which he trained at the Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States.
Mr Subramonian’s clinical practice includes keyhole surgery for kidney stones using percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and ureteroscopy, lithotripsy with shockwave treatment, flexible and rigid cystoscopy, surgery for benign scrotal lumps, TURP and urethrotomy, vasectomy and vasectomy reversal, and treatments for erectile dysfunction.
