Mr Chelliah Selvasekar is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and also treats private patients at Spire Manchester Hospital. He specialises in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery for both benign and malignant colorectal conditions, as well as keyhole procedures for abdominal wall hernias, including TEP repairs. His practice also includes laparoscopic cholecystectomy and splenectomy.
An accredited screening colonoscopist for the national bowel cancer screening programme, Mr Selvasekar regularly performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. He offers minimally invasive haemorrhoid treatments, including HALO/THD and the Rafaelo procedure, aiming to provide effective care with reduced discomfort and recovery time.
He received his MB BS in 1994 from Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, India, and trained in the North West of England. He completed a prestigious fellowship in advanced colorectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic, USA, and holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from University College London for research into premalignant colorectal conditions. He later completed an MBA at Keele University in 2015.
Mr Selvasekar is Wade Professor of Surgical Studies and an examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He also serves as an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Manchester and is a national trainer in laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
