Mr Atif Alvi is a Consultant General Surgeon specialising in colorectal and laparoscopic surgery. His clinical practice includes routine laparoscopic cholecystectomy, pilonidal surgery, and hernia repair, alongside the surgical management of colorectal cancers. Over the course of his career, he has performed more than 400 open and over 600 laparoscopic colorectal operations, achieving surgical and oncological outcomes comparable with national standards. Approximately 95% of his bowel cancer work has been carried out using minimally invasive techniques.
Mr Alvi completed his medical degree before undertaking higher surgical training in Cambridge and London. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in September 2010 and subsequently completed a Fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery. He was appointed to a Consultant post in 2011. His specialist experience includes work across multiple centres of excellence, where he gained advanced expertise in complex colorectal cancer surgery, revision procedures, and pelvic exenteration.
Mr Alvi promotes enhanced recovery pathways delivered through a multidisciplinary team approach, with the aim of supporting earlier recovery and discharge following surgery. His areas of clinical expertise include colorectal surgery, laparoscopic surgery, cholecystectomy, pilonidal disease, hernia repair, irritable bowel surgery, pelvic exenteration, and the treatment of colorectal, colon, bowel, and rectal cancers, as well as hernia and irritable bowel disease.
