Mr Arjuna Imbuldeniya is a London-based Consultant Knee and Hip Surgeon with over 25 years’ experience in medicine and more than a decade as a substantive NHS consultant at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in the assessment and treatment of knee and hip pain, sports injuries and degenerative joint conditions, with a particular focus on joint preservation and non-surgical care.
Many patients seek Mr Imbuldeniya because they want clear explanations, modern treatment options and honest advice about whether surgery is truly necessary. His clinical philosophy is that most knee and hip problems do not require immediate surgery and often sit on a spectrum where accurate diagnosis, optimisation of joint biology, movement and targeted intervention can restore function and delay or avoid major surgery.
He is the founder of Ortholongevity, a surgeon-led approach that integrates orthopaedic expertise with evidence-based longevity medicine. This approach combines advanced imaging and diagnostics, movement analysis, rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, lifestyle optimisation and regenerative treatments to protect joint health and maintain long-term mobility.
Non-surgical and joint preservation expertise
Mr Imbuldeniya has a specialist interest in evidence-based non-surgical treatments, including high-dose Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), Arthrosamid® (polyacrylamide hydrogel) and hyaluronic acid injections. These treatments are delivered as part of structured, personalised programmes rather than stand-alone interventions, with the aim of reducing pain, improving function and preserving natural joints for as long as possible.
Surgical expertise when required
When surgery is appropriate, Mr Imbuldeniya offers extensive experience in advanced knee and hip surgery. His knee practice includes ACL reconstruction and revision ACL surgery, complex meniscus repair, cartilage repair and knee preservation surgery, as well as robotic-assisted partial and total knee replacement. His hip practice focuses on muscle-sparing, minimally invasive and rapid-recovery hip replacement techniques in active adults, alongside complex and revision hip surgery.
Patients value his ability to explain why surgery is recommended, what it can realistically achieve, and when it is better to wait.
Training and professional background
Mr Imbuldeniya trained at leading London teaching hospitals including St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospital. He completed advanced international fellowship training at the Mater Hospital in Sydney and was awarded the ESSKA Sports Knee Fellowship in Barcelona, training with leading European knee surgeons. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee, the British Hip Society and the European Sports Knee Surgery Society.
NHS and private practice
Mr Imbuldeniya is a Consultant Knee and Hip Surgeon at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. He sees private patients at HCA facilities including Chiswick Outpatients and The Lister Hospital, as well as other London clinics, providing personalised, evidence-based care focused on long-term joint health rather than short-term fixes.
