Mr. Mark Foster is a Consultant Hand and Plastic Surgeon with extensive expertise in managing complex hand trauma and upper extremity injuries. He trained at Frimley Park, Frenchay, and Johannesburg, and studied at the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester.
As a fellowship-trained surgeon, he performs procedures such as carpal tunnel decompression, ganglion excision, trigger finger and trigger thumb release, and surgeries for Dupuytren's contracture, as well as scar revisions and excision of skin lesions on the upper limb. His clinical practice spans the treatment of acute hand injuries to advanced reconstructive surgeries, with a strong focus on restoring function and enhancing quality of life.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Foster holds significant leadership roles within UHB as the Clinical Service Lead for Day Surgery, where he has been instrumental in improving patient pathways, establishing new surgical centres, and optimising theatre utilisation. He is also a dedicated academic and researcher with a particular interest in trauma physiology and clinical trials, including pioneering studies on DHEA supplementation in trauma patients. An active educator, he regularly lectures at the University of Birmingham and mentors trainees at all levels. Mr. Foster is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and he is an active member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand.
