Dr Mahmoud Alkholany is an Interventional and Neuromodulation pain Consultant practicing in Northwest of England between independent sector and NHS with more than 15-year experience in his field. Dr Alkholany has a special interest in the management of Chronic pain conditions arising from spine; low back and neck pain, facet and sacroiliac joints, Sciatica, radicular pain, pyriformis syndrome and Cluneal nerve entrapment, pain arising from large joints such as hips, shoulders and knees, neuropathic pain conditions such as painful diabetic neuropathy and post herpetic neuralgia, generalised pain such as fibromyalgia, headache, facial pain and Cancer related pain. He also has special interest in Neuromodulation for chronic pain conditions refractory to conventional management such as failed back surgery syndrome and neuropathic pain conditions.
Dr Alkholany adopts a holistic patient centred approach to pain management, where he offers his patients a wide range of X ray and US guided interventional pain procedures, fitting this in a personalised management plan that minds the multidimensional nature of chronic pain being a bio-psycho-social disorder to help his patients achieve best outcomes and regain their quality of life and daily functioning. Dr Alkholany has a rich experience in his field having graduated in 2005 from a highly regarded medical school in Cairo, Egypt at Ain Shams University. He then pursued his professional career across three different health care systems in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UK.
He received his pain medicine training and fellowship between bespoke centres across Northwest of England between Manchester University Hospitals, Salford Royal hospital, Lancashire teaching Hospitals and the Walton centre before starting his role as a consultant as well as a fellowship in Neuromodulation at the prestigious Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in London. He’s been awarded a Master of Science in Anaesthesia, Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists FRCA, European Diploma of Intensive care Medicine EDIC, Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine FFPMRCA and a postgraduate certificate in medical education. He has a special interest in medical education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He currently holds role of faculty tutor for pain training within his NHS role in addition to a repertoire of contribution to medical education and training.
