Dr Mahbubl Ahmed is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in the treatment of soft tissue and bone sarcomas using advanced radiotherapy techniques, including photon and proton beam therapy.
Sarcoma is one of the most challenging and rewarding areas of oncology. As a rare cancer with more than 100 different subtypes, it requires highly specialised expertise and multidisciplinary care. He works as part of one of Europe's largest sarcoma services, helping patients with newly diagnosed, recurrent, and complex sarcomas.
A major focus of his work is developing innovative treatment options for patients whose tumours cannot be safely removed with surgery. He had led the development of novel radiotherapy techniques that allow very high doses of treatment to be delivered precisely to sarcomas while minimising radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. This work has resulted in award-winning research and has helped expand treatment options for patients who historically had very limited alternatives.
In addition to his work in sarcoma, he has a specialist interest in breast sarcomas, including phyllodes tumours and radiation-associated angiosarcoma of the breast. He was one of the principal authors of the UK National Phyllodes Guidelines and have played a leading role in improving outcomes for patients with these rare tumours.
His approach to patient care is centred on expertise, communication, and compassion. He believes that every patient should understand their diagnosis and feel fully involved in decisions about their treatment. Alongside cancer treatment, he encourages a holistic approach to wellbeing, recognising the importance of exercise, nutrition, sleep, stress management, and emotional health in supporting patients through their cancer journey.
His goal is to provide every patient with access to the most advanced treatments available while delivering care that is personalised, evidence-based, and focused on achieving the best possible outcome and quality of life.
