Dr Lucy Hicks is a highly experienced Gastroenterologist who was appointed Consultant at St Mary’s Hospital within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in 2018.
Her clinical practice focuses on a wide range of digestive conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, reflux and dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, as well as broader aspects of gut health and nutrition. She is also skilled in a variety of endoscopic procedures, such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, and surveillance endoscopy.
Since 2022, Dr Hicks has served as Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology at the Trust. In this role, she has been closely involved in organising services, driving quality improvement initiatives, and supporting the delivery of safe, high-standard patient care. She has also made significant contributions to departmental leadership, the development of clinical pathways, and collaborative multidisciplinary working.
Dr Hicks is strongly committed to medical education and has held several important roles in training. These have included serving as Clinical Training Lead at St Mary’s Hospital. She currently works as the Training Programme Director for Gastroenterology in North West London. A JAG-accredited Endoscopy Trainer, she regularly teaches on national training programmes. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr Hicks maintains an active academic profile and is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London. Her research interests focus on inflammatory bowel disease and the gut microbiome, and she is involved in both commercial and investigator-initiated clinical trials.
Dr Hicks is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, the British Society of Gastroenterology, the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation, and the American Gastroenterology Association.
