About

Miss Lina Antoun is a consultant gynaecologist at The Harborne Hospital. Her practice centres on endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain, and she has advanced training in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery. She sees women whose symptoms are affecting their health, work or relationships.

In clinic, Miss Antoun assesses persistent pelvic pain and diagnoses endometriosis, using diagnostic laparoscopy where needed. She also performs laparoscopic surgery to treat the disease. Alongside this, she sees women with menstrual problems and concerns about reproductive health or fertility. Complex pain rarely has one cause, so she works with pain management doctors, radiologists and therapists to look at it from every angle. Treatment decisions are made together, with each plan shaped around what matters most to the patient.

Miss Antoun graduated in medicine from the University of Aleppo in 2007. Her subspecialty training at Birmingham Women’s Hospital covered advanced keyhole surgery and colposcopy. She also spent time as a research fellow with the University of Birmingham. She was appointed consultant in 2023 and is part of the gynaecology team at the Birmingham Endometriosis Centre. The centre is accredited by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE).

Surgical education is a major part of her work. Miss Antoun joined the BSGE council in 2022 and now chairs its laparoscopic training portfolio. She is also course faculty for national laparoscopic training run by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists with the BSGE.

Her research explores how endometriosis care is organised, newer medical and surgical treatments, and how treatment affects quality of life and fertility. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, and her work has won prizes at national and international meetings.
