Dr Kristopher Knott is a Consultant Cardiologist at St George's University Hospitals in London, where he leads general cardiology and heart failure clinics. With over 10 years' experience, he sees adults with heart problems including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, high blood pressure and heart failure, and those wanting to lower their heart risk.
He takes time to listen, explains findings clearly and agrees a plan with each patient.
He studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and University College London and trained at leading London hospitals, including St George's, King's College Hospital and the Royal Brompton. He completed a PhD at UCL funded by the British Heart Foundation. He is an Honorary Associate Professor at UCL and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at City St George's, University of London. He was awarded the British Cardiovascular Society Emerging Leaders prize.
He is also a specialist in advanced heart imaging, with the highest level of accreditation in cardiac MRI and CT, so he can personally interpret his patients' scans.
Outside medicine he is a keen football fan and enjoys time with his family.
Special/ research interests
Dr Knott's main interest is the use of advanced imaging to give patients a clear and accurate diagnosis. He sees patients with chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, heart failure and those wishing to understand their future risk of heart disease. His research has focused on quantitative myocardial perfusion mapping, an AI-based cardiac MRI technique that measures blood flow to the heart muscle. His work in Circulation (2020) showed that reduced blood flow measured in this way predicts death and major cardiac events in over 1,000 patients. This research has received national and international awards and media coverage. His current interests include CT-based assessment of coronary plaque and inflammation, coronary microvascular disease (angina with unobstructed coronary arteries), heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, and the safe use of artificial intelligence in cardiac imaging.
