Dr. Howell was the clinical scientist in charge of Microvascular Diagnostics at the Royal Free Hospital from 1992 - 2023. He is an Accredited Senior Imaging Scientist and Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, and current President of the European Association of Thermology. He is also a member of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine and has served two terms on IPEM’s Physiological Measurement Special Interest Group Committee.

Dr. Howell was awarded his PhD for research using thermal imaging in rheumatology from the University of Glamorgan (now University of South Wales) in 2009. He has extensive experience of nailfold capillaroscopy imaging in connective tissue diseases and contributes regularly to training and education via projects such as the British Society of Rheumatology Course on nailfold capillaroscopy.

In 2024, Ms Louise Parker and Dr Kevin Howell founded the Raynaud’s Clinic; having run this previously at The Royal Free London NHSFT. This has enabled them to continue to use their highly specialised skill set. Their consulting practice is distinguished by its patient-centric approach and years of practice in managing Raynaud’s phenomenon.
