Dr. Kay Roy heads the asthma service at University College London Hospitals, where she also serves as the Trust’s clinical lead for Tobacco Dependency/Smoking Cessation and Sarcoidosis. As an integrated care physician, she collaborates closely with primary care teams to shape community-based services for asthma and COPD, as well as contribute to the development of clinical management guidelines.
She is a contributing author to the 2024 NICE guidelines on Asthma and holds several national leadership roles, including Chair of the British Thoracic Society (BTS) Specialist Advisory Group on Lung Infections. Within the North Central London region, she plays an active role in the Respiratory Network, where she leads on Asthma and chairs the Sustainability Forum.
Following the completion of her PhD focused on the clinical characterisation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and formal training in clinical trials, Dr. Roy has led multiple multicentre research studies as a principal investigator. She is also a member of three National Research Strategy Groups covering Asthma, COPD, and Acute Lung Infections.
As an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London, Dr. Roy has been part of the postgraduate faculty for the Masters in Respiratory Medicine programme, supervising several high-distinction theses and serving as an examiner for postgraduate degrees. She has also mentored and assessed medical students, residents, and GP trainees at various levels of their education.
Dr. Roy has been a finalist for several prestigious national awards—including those from the British Thoracic Society, the Health Service Journal, and the British Medical Journal—for her work in respiratory medicine innovation and quality improvement, consistently striving to provide the highest standard of care for her patients.
