John Afolayan

Mr John O. Afolayan is an internationally trained consultant orthopaedic and spinal surgeon with specialist expertise in complex spinal surgery, spinal deformity, spinal tumour management, minimally invasive techniques, and cutting-edge surgical technologies. His practice spans the full spectrum of spinal conditions — from trauma, degenerative disease, sports injuries, and congenital abnormalities to complex spinal deformities and sarcoma — delivering personalised, outcome-driven care that emphasises rapid recovery and optimal quality of life.

Educated and medically qualified from Guy’s, King’s & St Thomas’ Hospital School of Medicine, London, Mr Afolayan completed rigorous Trauma & Orthopaedic training and undertook multiple prestigious fellowships in orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal surgery at world-renowned centres including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and the Royal London Hospital. He has further developed long lasting professional networks in Africa, United States of America and Asia through travelling fellowship and bespoke visitations. 

He holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Tr & Orth) and is recognised for his multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach to spinal care, integrating advanced diagnostics, minimally invasive strategies, and emerging technologies to enhance patient safety and accelerate recovery. Mr Afolayan also champions patient empowerment, advocating shared decision-making that aligns clinical excellence with individual goals.

As one of the spinal sarcoma surgeons on the London Sarcoma Service, he brings rare subspecialist experience in oncological spinal surgery, combining his comprehensive expertise with a multidisciplinary surgical team to offer bespoke surgical care.

An active academic surgeon, Mr Afolayan contributes to national and international clinical education, research, and innovation. He has presented widely across global forums and continues to mentor the next generation of spinal specialists, reinforcing his leadership across clinical, academic and teaching domains.
