About
Dr. Jess Elmer is a Clinical Psychologist at Roodlane Medical New Broad Street with over 12 years of experience working with children, young people, and families across various community, NHS, and inpatient settings. At the core of Jess's philosophy is a commitment to not defining individuals solely by the challenges they face. Instead, she actively explores and values their strengths, interests, and resources, incorporating these elements into the therapeutic process. Working closely with children and families, Jess works towards developing a shared understanding of the difficulties they seek help for, using this as a foundation to inform evidence-based intervention approaches. Jess's expertise spans various areas, including adjustment to parenthood, family life events (such as divorce and loss), trauma, perinatal mental health difficulties, and family relationship challenges. She is adept at addressing a spectrum of presenting issues in early, middle, and late childhood, such as child behavioural difficulties, separation anxiety, withdrawal, anxiety, and depression. Informed by a broad range of theories, including developmental psychology, attachment theory, and systemic theory, Jess adopts an integrative approach tailored to the unique needs of the individuals and families she works with. Her practice incorporates models such as narrative therapy, mindfulness, mentalisation-based approaches, cognitive-behaviour therapy, and systemic family therapy. Jess is also skilled in offering individual and group-based parenting interventions and holds accreditation as a 'Video feedback to Promote Positive Parenting' (VIPP) intervener and supervisor.
