Mr. Hemanshoo Thakkar is a highly regarded and award-winning Consultant Paediatric Surgeon based in London. He graduated from King’s College London in 2009 with four distinctions and completed his early surgical training in the London Deanery, where he also specialised in Paediatric Surgery. He achieved his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2019 and worked as a Locum Consultant Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. In 2020, he was appointed as a substantive consultant at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Mr. Thakkar has a keen interest in surgical leadership, education, and innovation, earning the prestigious title of Global Scholar in Surgical Leadership from Harvard Medical School in Boston. His clinical expertise spans a wide range of paediatric conditions, with a particular focus on lower gastrointestinal (GI) and colorectal surgery, including paediatric laparoscopy, anorectal malformations, Hirschsprung’s disease, pilonidal sinus disease, umbilical hernias, inguinal hernias, tongue ties and undescended testes.
Throughout his career, Mr. Thakkar has been recognised with numerous awards, including the Young Consultant of the Year from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in 2021 and the esteemed Alex Simpson Smith Travelling Fellowship Award for child health research in 2019.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Thakkar is committed to medical education and research. He serves as the educational lead for the Paediatric Surgery Department at Evelina London Children’s Hospital and as an undergraduate tutor for medical students at King’s College London. He has recently been promoted to the post of Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College London. His research interests include anorectal malformations and pilonidal sinus disease. He actively promotes innovation and quality improvement in his field.
Mr. Thakkar has also extended his educational outreach by creating evidence-based podcasts on paediatric surgery, helping to bring medical education to a broader audience. His passion for advancing healthcare and improving patient outcomes continues to drive his work, making him a highly respected figure in the medical community.
