Helen Benghiat

Dr Helen Benghiat MBChB, MRCP, FRCR is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at University Hospitals Birmingham, specialising in adult general neuro‑oncology, stereotactic radiosurgery, and paediatric radiotherapy, particularly for neuro‑oncological conditions.

Dr Benghiat’s clinical interests span benign and malignant adult neuro‑oncology, stereotactic radiosurgery for brain metastases and benign intracranial conditions, rare neuro‑oncological tumours, and Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) neuro‑oncology.

She holds several key leadership roles, including Stereotactic Radiosurgery MDT Lead, Oncology Research and Clinical Trials Lead, and TYA Neuro‑Oncology Lead at University Hospitals Birmingham. Nationally, she serves on the British Neuro‑Oncology Society (BNOS) National Clinical Committee.

Dr Benghiat is actively involved in clinical research with a strong focus on late‑phase neuro‑oncology trials. She is Principal Investigator for multiple brain tumour studies and has particular research interests in stereotactic radiosurgery (especially for multiple brain metastases) and rare brain tumours. Her extensive publication record includes contributions to journals covering topics such as stereotactic radiosurgery outcomes, re‑irradiation in paediatric brain tumours, neurotoxicity mitigation strategies, and advanced neuro‑imaging.

Dr Benghiat is an educational supervisor for clinical oncology trainees and teaches medical students weekly in both clinical and academic settings. She is also a regular lecturer on the University of Birmingham Oncology MSc programme.

Dr Benghiat is an active member of numerous professional organisations, including the Royal College of Radiologists, EANO, BNOS, the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG), and the International Society of Paediatric Oncology.
