Dr Farrukh Rauf is a consultant physician in respiratory medicine, practising at The Harborne Hospital. Dr Rauf is Clinical Service Lead for Respiratory Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and chairs the Respiratory Clinical Network for University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.
Dr Rauf graduated from King Edward Medical College in Pakistan in 2003, which is one of the most prestigious and oldest institutes in the region. He started his NHS career in 2005 and went on to complete his core medical and then dual specialist training in South East London and the West Midlands, achieving his certificate of completion of training (CCT) in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine in 2016. Dr Rauf was in the same year appointed as a Consultant Respiratory Physician in The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
Dr Farrukh Rauf has a particular interest in teaching and training. He participates in training the committee of the regional respiratory trainees and is a clinical tutor at University Hospitals Birmingham.
Dr Rauf’s clinical interest includes seeing a range of respiratory presentations, including cough and breathlessness of unclear causes, airway diseases, haemoptysis and respiratory infections.
His specialist interests are sleep breathing disorders and bronchiectasis. He also takes a keen interest in practical procedures especially fibreoptic bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).
