Dr Ethan Troy-Barnes is a Consultant Haematologist at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and holds an Honorary Associate Professorship at UCL Medical School. His work spans both clinical care and research, with a particular emphasis on disorders of red blood cells such as sickle cell disease and thalassaemia, as well as conditions affecting iron balance, blood count abnormalities, and transfusion practice.
He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2024 and was awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2018. In 2022, he received the UCLH Junior Doctor of the Year Celebrating Excellence Award in recognition of his contribution to clinical care and training.
Alongside his NHS and academic roles, he contributes to several specialist advisory and guideline groups at both national and international level. These include the European Haematology Association working group on red cells and iron, the UK National Haemoglobinopathy Panel, the UK NEQAS Haemoglobinopathy advisory group, and the UK Forum on Haemoglobin Disorders.
