Dr Mick Ozkor is a London-based consultant cardiologist with 29 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. His practice covers both general and interventional cardiology, combining advanced procedural expertise with a personalised approach to patient care. He believes that timely, appropriate treatment can make a significant difference to a person’s health and quality of life. Patients value his careful assessments, straightforward explanations and commitment to helping them understand their condition and make informed decisions. He places great importance on listening to individual concerns and ensuring that investigations and treatment are coordinated smoothly.
His clinical practice encompasses a wide range of cardiac conditions, including coronary artery disease, high and low blood pressure, raised cholesterol, heart valve disorders such as aortic stenosis, arrhythmias, heart failure and atrial fibrillation. He assesses patients experiencing chest pain or discomfort, possible angina, palpitations, irregular heartbeats, breathlessness, swollen ankles, dizziness, blackouts, collapse or a decline in exercise capacity. He also provides preventive cardiology services, cardiovascular risk assessments and cardiac evaluations before surgery.
Dr Ozkor has extensive experience in complex coronary interventions. His expertise includes balloon angioplasty and stent insertion, radial-access procedures, vein graft interventions, treatment of chronic total occlusions and procedures involving the left main coronary artery. He also has a particular interest in structural and valvular heart disease, including the assessment and treatment of patients who require valve replacement. He performs transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), a minimally invasive procedure that can be carried out without the need for general anaesthesia in appropriate patients. He holds accreditation in both general medicine and cardiology.
Following his medical qualification from Imperial College School of Medicine, Dr Ozkor undertook postgraduate research at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He is currently a consultant cardiologist and Clinical Director of Interventional and Structural Cardiology at Barts Heart Centre, part of St Bartholomew’s NHS Trust. His previous senior appointments include Clinical Director of Medicine and Cardiovascular Services at North Middlesex Hospital and Cath Lab Director at Barts Heart Centre. Throughout his career, he has combined clinical practice with substantial NHS management and leadership responsibilities, continuing to perform complex cardiac procedures as part of his day-to-day work.
Improving the quality, accessibility and efficiency of cardiac services has been a recurring focus of his leadership. He has led clinical governance initiatives designed to improve access to the Heart Attack Centre and reduce delays for patients requiring emergency cardiac care. He has also provided national and international advice on the development of effective cardiac care pathways on behalf of the UK government and the Department for International Development.
Dr Ozkor has contributed extensively to medical literature, publishing numerous articles in established journals on cardiovascular conditions. His expertise is also sought internationally, and he is frequently invited to speak at cardiology conferences and professional events around the world. Through visits to hospitals overseas and collaboration with fellow specialists, he shares developments in interventional cardiology and helps colleagues learn about emerging techniques and innovations.
Outside his professional life, Dr Ozkor enjoys spending time with his wife and four children and has a longstanding enthusiasm for football. Much of his free time involves taking his children to their various activities and keeping pace with their busy social lives. He jokes that the daily challenge of parenting provides a cardiovascular workout of its own, while watching football and debating refereeing decisions offers a welcome break from his demanding clinical work.
