Dr Waseem Bakkour is a Consultant Dermatologist and Dermatological (Mohs) Surgeon at University College London Hospital, where he runs the skin cancer and mole screening service and regularly operates on skin cancer, including performing Mohs micrographic surgery (which is the gold standard treatment for common skin cancers offering the highest cure rates, whilst minimising scarring at the same time). He also sees patients with general skin complaints such as acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and other skin rashes.
Dr Bakkour completed his general medical training and obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK) in 2010. He then undertook extensive specialist training in Dermatology at the world-renowned dermatology centre in Manchester, leading to recognition on the General Medical Council Specialist Register of Dermatologists (CCT).
He then became the first dermatologist in the UK to undertake a prestigious 18 month, Royal College approved, procedural dermatology fellowship at the dermatology centre in Manchester specialising in advanced dermatological and reconstructive surgery (Mohs), lasers and cosmetic dermatology. He gained further experience at the internationally-recognised Johns Hopkins Hospital, Maryland, USA.
Dr Bakkour is one of a handful of doctors in the UK to have had formal fellowship training in the use of lasers. He has access to cutting edge lasers which he can use to help patients with scarring and acne scarring, tattoo and pigment removal, facial and leg thread veins and rejuvenation. Dr Bakkour also has extensive experience and training in cosmetic dermatology including botox, fillers, microneedling, dermabrasion and chemical peels, where he regularly performs complex and advanced procedures.
His main research interests include the clinical and cosmetic applications of lasers, skin cancer and dermatological surgery. He has published extensively in the fields of lasers, surgical, cosmetic and general dermatology. He has also presented his work at national and international meetings. Additionally, he has been a faculty member teaching on lasers and skin surgery courses and an invited speaker at the MSc in skin ageing and aesthetic medicine, University of Manchester.
He is frequently trusted by his colleagues for his second opinion and he is responsible for supervising and training the next generation of dermatology doctors, medical students and international fellows.
