Dr Shankara Paneesha is a highly experienced Consultant Haematologist with over twenty years of clinical and academic expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex blood disorders. He has broad experience across haematology, with particular specialist interest in haemato-oncology and thrombosis.
Dr Paneesha obtained his primary medical qualification from Mysore University, India, before completing postgraduate training in General Medicine at Bombay University. He later undertook his early specialist training in the UK at the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital, followed by advanced specialist haematology training within the West Midlands Deanery.
Alongside his clinical training, Dr Paneesha pursued a strong research focus, specialising in myeloma and venous thrombosis at Warwick University. This work provided him with in-depth expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of myeloma, lymphoma, inherited thrombophilia, leukaemia, and stem cell transplantation, combining evidence-based care with cutting-edge research insight.
In 2017, Dr Paneesha was appointed Consultant Haematologist at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, where he remains actively involved in clinical practice and research. He serves as principal or sub investigator on multiple haemato-oncology clinical trials and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. His research has been presented at both national and international conferences, reflecting his ongoing commitment to advancing haematological care.
