Dr Rovel Colaco

Dr. Colaco is a consultant clinical oncologist with extensive training in proton therapy and stereotactic radiotherapy. He trained at The Christie before being selected as the first UK doctor to train in proton therapy, spending 12 months at the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute. He then spent a further year at Yale University in Connecticut, USA, where he became the first graduate of Yale's Stereotactic Radiotherapy fellowship, specializing in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for brain metastases and extra-cranial stereotactic radiotherapy (SABR). At Yale, he worked with Gamma Knife and Cyber-knife technology to deliver stereotactic radiotherapy. Dr. Colaco has authored several peer-reviewed manuscripts in stereotactic radiotherapy and proton therapy and has been an invited speaker at international meetings.

Upon returning to The Christie, he took on a leading role in both the proton therapy and stereotactic radiotherapy programs. He treats primary brain and spine tumours with both proton and X-ray therapy, and brain, bone, lymph node, and spinal metastases with stereotactic radiotherapy. He has previously served as the co-chair for CNS and skull base tumours of the Particle Therapy Co-operative Group (PTCOG) and a member of the UK SABR consortium committee, helping to lead the development of SABR for spine and bone tumours nationally.
