Dr Perla Eleftheriou is a well-respected Consultant Haematologist with extensive experience in the management and treatment of haemoglobinopathies, rare anaemias, iron overload, iron deficiency disorders, and red cell disorders (sickle cell disease, thalassaemia). She is actively involved in research, investigating disease-modifying agents in red cell disorders. Her work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, and she has contributed to national guidelines. Dr Eleftheriou is a clinical advisor to the UK Thalassaemia Society and the Thalassaemia International Federation. She enjoys teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at UCL, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the University of Westminster. Her expertise includes intravenous iron infusion, therapeutic venesection, maintenance venesection, red cell exchange transfusion, blood transfusion, bone marrow biopsies, general haematology, iron deficiency, iron overload disorder, red cell disorders, haemoglobinopathies, sickle cell anaemia, sickle cell disease, pre-operative optimization of sickle cell patients, thalassaemia carriers/trait, thalassaemia intermedia, thalassaemia major, anaemia, red cell enzymopathies, G6PD deficiency, red cell membrane disorders, polycythaemia, and abnormal blood counts.
