About
Dr. Navtej Chahal is an experienced Consultant Cardiologist at London Northwest NHS Trust and holds an Honorary Consultant position at Royal Brompton Hospital. In addition, Dr. Chahal is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
Dr. Chahal graduated from Guy's and St Thomas' Medical School in 2001 and completed his PhD in 2012, focusing on early imaging markers for cardiovascular disease. His research has been particularly impactful, especially regarding individuals of Indian Asian descent and patients undergoing head and neck radiotherapy in the LOLIPOP study. His publications cover a range of topics, including the role of non-invasive imaging in epidemiology, ethnic variations in cardiac function, and the use of stress imaging in evaluating valvular heart disease.
In 2011, Dr. Chahal became an Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellow at The Royal Brompton Hospital, where he gained significant experience in stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, cardiovascular MRI, and cardiac CT. His current clinical research focuses on improving the assessment of valvular heart disease and chest pain through rest echocardiography, stress echocardiography, and cardiac MRI.
Dr. Chahal is actively engaged in collaborative work with the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College, investigating methods to quantify myocardial blood flow and carotid plaque neovascularisation using ultrasonography. In his clinical practice, Dr. Chahal treats a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations/arrhythmias, valve disease, hypertension, patent foramen ovale (PFO), heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and dyslipidaemia.
