Dr Michael Perkin is a Consultant Paediatric Allergist and one of very few highly specialised paediatric allergists working exclusively in paediatric allergy. He, alongside Professor Gideon Lack, is now co-leading a large trial, the EAT Study, focused on the prevention of food allergy development in infants. He is also a Consultant Paediatric Allergist at St George's Hospital while also dedicating his time to teaching as a Senior Lecturer in the largest paediatric allergy service in Europe, at St Thomas' Hospital.
Dr Perkin undertook allergy training at Southampton and St Mary's Hospital as well as Great Ormond Street Hospital. He held a prestigious Welcome Training Fellowship, during which he conducted research for his PhD, which focused on farming children and what protects them from allergic disease. This work found a strong protective effect associated with unpasteurised milk consumption.
