Dr Michael Dilley is a highly experienced Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, specialising in the assessment and treatment of brain injuries, including traumatic and acquired brain injuries. He has particular expertise in managing complex functional neurological disorders that require multidisciplinary rehabilitation.
He holds several prominent roles in the field of neuropsychiatry, serving as Chair of the Faculty of Neuropsychiatry at the Royal College of Psychiatrists (since 2020) and as a member of the NHS England Clinical Reference Group for Rehabilitation, Disability, and Spinal Cord Injury (since 2022). Additionally, he is a Trustee of the United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum (UKABIF), reflecting his commitment to advancing care and support for individuals affected by brain injuries.
Dr Dilley provides specialist neuropsychiatric care across a range of settings, including intensive care, acute brain injury and neurology units, and the Brain Injury Team’s multidisciplinary outpatient service. He has extensive experience in managing the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural consequences of neurological conditions, particularly brain injury and functional neurological disorders.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr Dilley is actively engaged in research aimed at improving outcomes for patients with brain injuries. He is a co-investigator in the STOP-D Randomised Trial, a major National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)-funded study focused on preventing depression following traumatic brain injury.
