Having graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School in 1995, Dr Matthew Foxton undertook his specialist training in the South East London region and completed his training in 2007, having gained sub-specialty accreditation in hepatology-gastroenterology . In 2009, he completed his thesis on "Hepatitis C recurrence after liver transplantation", for which he was awarded an MD from the University of London.
With a vast expertise in liver disease and associated conditions, Dr Foxton was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich in 2007. In 2010, he took up a post as consultant hepatologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and King's College Hospital. Dr Foxton has a particular interest in viral hepatitis, early detection of liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma.
In 2011, Dr Foxton became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He is also a member of British Society of Gastroenterology, British Association for the Study of the Liver and American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.
