Dr. Maria Kinali is a consultant paediatric neurologist with special interests in childhood neuromuscular diseases, neurogenetics, and neurorehabilitation. She earned her primary medical qualification (Ptychio Iatrikes) in 1992 from the University of Patras and completed an MD focusing on the management and long-term outcomes in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). In 1999, she coordinated the UK steroid trial in DMD across 14 UK neuromuscular centers. Dr. Kinali contributed to translational research by establishing a Rare Diseases biological samples bank (Biobank) for pharmacological, gene, and cell therapy trials in neuromuscular diseases. From 2005 to 2009, she worked as a senior clinical research fellow at Imperial College and the Institute of Child Health, coordinating a Phase I/II clinical trial using Morpholino Antisense Oligonucleotide (AVI-4658) in DMD. Her expertise includes greater occipital nerve injections, Botox injections for migraines, neurogenetics, neurorehabilitation, childhood neuromuscular diseases, clinical aspects, management, and therapy of epilepsy, complex headaches, chronic headaches, progressive neurodegenerative movement disorders, and general neurology.
