Layla Al-Nakib

Dr Layla Al-Nakib is a Consultant Paediatrician with more than 35 years of NHS experience and over 30 years of specialist practice in Paediatric Neurodisability and Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics. Her clinical work focuses on the assessment and management of autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, developmental delay and learning difficulties, cerebral palsy, special educational needs, genetic and syndromic conditions, and complex neurodevelopmental presentations.

She completed her medical degree (MBChB) at Al-Mustansirya University in 1984 and undertook specialist training in London within the North West Thames region, where she developed expertise in Community Child Health. She later took up an NHS Consultant role in Child Development and Neurodisability in North West London, combining clinical practice with teaching and mentoring. Dr Al-Nakib is also involved in training and assessing paediatricians preparing for consultant appointments across the UK.

Dr Al-Nakib obtained MRCPCH in 1998 and was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) in 2011. She also holds MRCP from the Royal College of Physicians.

Alongside her NHS work, she has over 18 years of private practice experience, with a focus on neurodevelopmental assessment and ongoing management of ADHD, autism, and sleep difficulties in children and adolescents. She is a trained Sleep Practitioner with The Sleep Charity and has particular experience supporting autistic young people with sleep-related difficulties. Her clinical interests also include ADHD in the context of learning disabilities, and she manages a wide range of complex developmental presentations.
