About

Dr Itunu Johnson-Sogbetun, who is also known as Dr Sho or Dr Johnson, is a UK-based portfolio General Practitioner with more than 10 years of clinical experience. Her approach to healthcare is grounded in the bio-psycho-social model, which recognises that physical health, psychological wellbeing and social circumstances are closely interconnected. She takes a holistic approach to medicine, working with patients to support both their physical and mental wellbeing and help them achieve the best possible quality of life.

Dr Sho has a particular interest in women's health, sexual and reproductive healthcare, and menopause management. Her wider medical experience includes general internal medicine, as well as clinical exposure to dermatology, diabetes and endocrinology, oncology and care of older people. She provides personalised, patient-focused care across both NHS and private healthcare settings.

Her commitment to improving women's health is reflected in her professional involvement with the British Menopause Society and the Primary Care Women's Health Forum, where she is a member of the Rock My Menopause Committee. She also sits on the RCGP North West London Faculty Board and leads its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy. Through this work, she collaborates with colleagues to promote greater health equity and help create development and career opportunities for GPs from underrepresented backgrounds.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Sho has a strong interest in medical education. She is a GP tutor and examiner at Queen Mary University of London Medical School, where she supports and teaches medical students as they develop their clinical knowledge and skills.

Dr Sho studied Medicine at University College London, graduating in July 2011, and also completed an intercalated BSc in Medical Sciences with Human Genetics. Her early postgraduate training was undertaken through the North Central London foundation programme, with clinical placements at University College London Hospital, Watford General Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital.

She went on to complete Core Internal Medicine Training at the Whittington Hospital, including a specialist placement in neurorehabilitation and stroke medicine at The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery. This training led to her becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2014.

Throughout her career, Dr Sho has combined clinical practice with academic and research interests. She has been involved in research relating to human genetics, oncology and medical education and has worked as a locum medical registrar and resident medical officer at a number of hospitals across London. She subsequently completed the General Practice Vocational Training Specialist Scheme in West Hertfordshire in June 2021, achieving full membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

Her further specialist training includes a Diploma from the Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare. She is also currently undertaking the Advanced Certificate in Principles and Practice of Menopause Care offered by the British Menopause Society, further developing her expertise in the management of women's health and menopause.
